Using the Atlas of economic complexity project. https://atlas.cid.harvard.edu/explore. We will explore trade data and find an interesting explanation.¯¯
Getting familiar with the data and the tool. Part of this will explore what we can find out about a specific country. For this week you we will create a graph using what we learned from the textbook.
Questions to answer – All answers should take no more than 1-2 pages¯
Choosing a country – Choose a country that you want to know more about. How much information can you find about the country through the tool? What do you think is interesting about the country from a network perspective? Draw a simple graph showing at least 3 countries are connected to it via the export. Please write 1 paragraph about what your graph means. Please define your what your nodes are representing (Hint Countries) and what the edges mean
Knowing what a country imports and exports gives insight into its economy. Since we are concerned about how this connected to other countries, please expand on your previous graph by going one more layer deep with at least three other nodes (See example below: Example in upload file picture)
Explain in a sentence or two how one node is pivotal or not.
Explain also how you conducted your breadth-first search. (Step by step, why you chose the countries you did, etc)
*TIP: for this assignment think about the large exports and imports. If you choose an import that only accounts for 2% of the global population it might be difficult to find inference (but not impossible). The goal is to understand how global economy works.¯¯
