Strategic Management Plan for an Assisted Living Facility
The selected health care system for this strategic management plan is an Assisted Living Facility. The mentioned facility refers to a housing facility for people that have various forms of disabilities. While in the facilities, the individuals are provided with assistance or supervision when they are engaging in activities associated with daily living. To add on, outside healthcare providers handle the coordination of services. They are also responsible for monitoring the different resident activities that will ensure their well-being, safety, as well as health. It should also be known that some factors have an impact on the assisted living facility (Zuckerman, 2005).
Key socioeconomic factors such as demographics of physician base, employee base, and patient base affect the ALF. In this case, since many people are aging it means that they will suffer from some form of disability and will need the services of the ALF. Furthermore, the population continues to become quite diverse, and the employees are affected by this. In turn, they will need to have skills that will enable them to deal with the various ethnically diverse patients. In addition, the issue of shortage and surpluses of physicians will come about, and they will affect how services are given to individuals in need of care in an ALF (Eckert & Carder, 2005). For example, if there are few physicians, it means that people who need their services will suffer in the end.
Legislative factors will also affect the ALF mostly because they seek to promote the issue of consumer safety. Some of the factors include the large-scale legislative agendas and reforms, even legislative reforms that seek to reduce the high costs. It means that in the future, the state and federal legislative actions will increase so that modifications can be made. The result is that the consumers will be able to obtain care at the ALF while paying reasonable amounts. The organization will thus have to find ways of adjusting to the costs. Policy factors also come about in this issue because of some policies and regulations. For example, the government through its agencies may decide that it will come up with even more strict regulations for individuals health care workers that will not perform accordingly. In other situations, the organizations that are responsible for the accreditation of the ALFs will make licensing hard and the already established organizations will benefit since they will not be in competition (Eckert & Carder, 2005).
The Assisted Living Facility will be affected by some organizational factors such as competency building, encouraging staff development, as well as retaining and recruiting talent. In this case, the organization will have to strive to ensure that it only recruits the best talent, trains them, and provides an avenue for career progression. When it comes to the issue of service delivery, the people in need of services will demand to be given high-class services because of the advancements in various health related fields. It is also vital to be informed that technological factors such as an implementation of information technology systems, research advances, and medical equipment will increase the range of quality of services that the organization will provide. Lastly, some the current economic factors such as the organizations financial stability and reimbursement will determine if the ALF will be able to continue during despite the challenges that exist (Chafetz & Namazi, 2000). Therefore, an Assisted Living Facility will have to find ways of addressing all the issues that might affect it.
