GUIDELINES:Please complete the following exercises. For any questions that require you to work out a problem, please show your work. If a question requires STATA analysis, please ensure that your print-screen the results in. Copy and paste can cause you more work as you will need to format the pasted data.
Please note, you will not receive credit if you do not show your work on problem exercises. If you want to type it out, that is just fine. Alternatively, you can do it by hand, snap a photo, and paste into the document (just make sure it is clear). It is up to you.
As usual, this assignment is due by Sunday at 11:59 pm MST.
Assume all data provided are populations, not samples.
QUESTION:Table 3.7 in your book (Galderisi pg. 74) shows the 2012 election results for 16 counties in Central-Southern California. It includes the percentage of the vote received by the Democratic presidential candidate (incumbent Barack Obama), by the Democratic Senate candidate (incumbent Dianne Feinstein), and for Prop 34 (yes = abolish the death penalty), as well as the partisan leaning of the county.
Using this data, please complete the following:
Compute the median and mean for both the county vote for Obama and the county vote for Feinstein (including all counties). Describe and interpret fully what each figure tells you, in your own
Compare the median and mean of each variable. Comment on the skew of your distribution (skewness is covered in Galderisi pg. 63). Note, saying “positive” or “negative” is not sufficient.
Compare the results between the percent vote for Obama and the percent vote for Feinstein. What might this tell you about the difference and / or similarities between presidential and senatorial voting?
