Assignment Overview
The brain never ceases changing and hormones never cease fluctuating. Throughout life, hormonal shifts occur that can affect emotion, drive and perception of reality. Your assigned reading for this unit looks at the changes that occur toward the end of the lifespan; changes that occur in the “mature brain.”
The life circumstances surrounding the stages of menopause (for women) and andropause (for men) can leave mature adults feeling lonely and without purpose. This stage in life is often a time when children have left their parents’ home and adults are left to find a renewed purpose.
Loneliness can easily creep in during this phase of life! It is important for those in this stage of life to seek out social relationships. God created us for relationship and wants us to live in community with one another. As your text points out, feeling lonely hurts and the pain of loneliness serves as a deterrent to living a life alone.
