Internal and External Analyses
1) Assessment of Company Vision and Mission
Identify and describe the firm’s vision and mission. Are they appropriate for the organization? Do they do an
adequate job of informing stakeholders what the firm is, what businesses it intends to compete in, what it seeks to
accomplish, and who it seeks to serve? Do they challenge the organization? Are they reflective of the firm’s values
and aspirations?
2) How well is the company’s present strategy working?
Describe in some detail your company’s current
strategies (corporate, business, and international)
and then answer the question: How well is your present strategy
working (i.e., well, okay, not so well, etc..)? Back up your answer with a detailed discussion of your company’s
financial performance in comparison to your major competitors’ financial performance over the last 3 years, your
performance trends across all three years, and a comparison of these trends to the trends in your competitors’
performance. The following measures of financial performance should be included: return on assets, return on sales
(or profit margin), return on equity, and earnings per share. (Table)
3) What are your company’s resource strengths and weaknesses, and its external opportunities and threats?
Identify your company’s internal strengths and weaknesses and the external opportunities and threats that are
relevant to your company. Once completed discuss what your situation is like and the implications that it has for
your firm strategically.Use the “What do the SWOT listings reveal?” section in chapter 4 as a guide for your
SWOT Summary discussion. (Table)
4) Who are your major competitors, what strategies (corporate, business, and international) are they pursuing,
and what moves are they likely to make next?
