Ryan:
Currently, my role as a Safety Manager in the civilian environment, I have experience dealing with hazardous waste very often. To be an effective manager, I need to identify the issues the company or sites are facing and determine what impact it has on the business, our employees and potentially the environment. The qualities that a successful manager needs is to be able to think calmly under pressure, find alternative solutions to new problems, and make sure they follow laws that are in place that won’t affect the environment. As a subject matter expert, my operations team and facilities team look to me to make sure we are in compliance with our operating activities so I need to ensure I am up to date with any changes in OSHA and EPA regulations. Staying current and educated helps me make sound decisions for our business. As a manager, it is my duty to ensure we are complying with all laws and regulations, even though it may increase business expenses or extra time invested.
