Managing and using Information Systems Case Discussion
Question Description
Read case studies 1-1 and 1-2 and answer the following questions:
What is one key takeaway on what to do and what not to do when it comes to technological innovation for each case of Google and Lego (four points in all: one “do” and one “don’t do” per company)? Do not repeat someone else’s points.
Find an example of a company that failed to innovate and was pushed out of business. What are two critical errors the company’s leadership made? Could these errors have been avoided? If so, how? If not, why not? Do not repeat someone else’s example.
Find an example of a company that succeeded in innovating and became a market leader. What are two critical things that leadership did right? Could their success or strategy be replicated in a different industry or market segment? What inspiration could other companies take from this company’s success? Do not repeat someone else’s example.
Comment on the responses of at least two classmates. Try to offer constructive and meaningful feedback that advances everyone’s knowledge rather than merely a virtual pat on the back or “interesting post!”
Support your response and all factual assertions with appropriate scholarly or industry sources with proper citations in APA format. Remember that opinions are fine but they must be rooted in facts. Do not approach this as a journal entry filled with your stream-of-thoughts. Do thorough reading on the topic before responding and use what you’ve read as evidence to support what you post. Do not use Wikipedia or similar sites. Do not use blog posts unless they are official publications of the relevant companies or their employees (e.g., Mark Zuckerberg’s blog would be an appropriate source for information about Facebook).
