Part 2 Project Overview
Inthis project you will build on the short, informal report you completedin Lesson 10. (It is the Assignment 7.pdf in the upload files section. It is the part 2 of the assignment). Imagine yourself after graduation and working in yourideal job at your ideal company. You have identified a problem in thecompany’s operations that you believe you have a solution for:
a new piece of equipment or technology that will benefit your company
a new procedure or policy you wish your company to adopt
a change to an existing procedure or policy that will increase efficiency, productivity, or employee relations.
Youhave already discussed your idea with your immediate supervisor anddelivered a short, informal report of your proposal. Now your supervisorhas asked you to prepare a formal, researched report for the Board ofDirectors, who must give final authorization to your proposal. Topresent at their next meeting, write a 2000 – 2500 word formal,researched report using the APA Format template you produced earlier in this project.
Whileyou are free to invent names, job positions, and other details, theproblem, equipment/technology, or procedure you focus on must be “realworld” in nature. In other words, it must be something for which you canlocate reliable research data. Your report must use at least 6academic/professional quality sources, and no more than TWO can beTHOROUGHLY EVALUATED, HIGH QUALITY web pages. (I do not consider onlinegovernment reports or institutional reports, i.e. Center for DiseaseControl, American Cancer Society, American Medical Association, etc., tobe “web pages”; these are typically academic/professional qualitysources.) All sources must be correctly cited both in text and on yourReferences page using APA style. In addition to integrating the sources, the report must contain a minimum of the following elements:
a title page
a memorandum of transmittal page (click here for an example)
a contents list and illustrations list
an executive summary
a main section that is at least 2000 words and includes:
an introduction that establishes the scope and purpose of your report
at least 4 well developed, clearly identified topic sections, including:
details of your purpose (problem, need for equipment/technology, or need for procedural adoption/change)
a set ofinstructions (need not be a full section; can be included with equipmentdescription, problem identification, procedural details, or anotherpertinent topic)
the implications/effects of the problem (financial, ethical, legal, etc.)
details of your solution/recommendation
potential implications of your solution (financial, ethical, legal, etc)
a time schedule for implementing your solution
a conclusion that summarizes your report and re-emphasizes the potential benefits of accepting your proposal
a References list
at least 4 illustrations (images, charts, graphs, etc.), excluding cover page graphics, with the following criteria:
must be integrated into the report with the points they support
must be clearly labeled and cited (if borrowed from a research source) both in text and on the References page
at least 2 must be your own work (not borrowed), click here, here, and here for help in designing these
CANNOT be counted as your 6 research sources
