discussion 1) I believe that the government has an important role in helping the American people with social welfare. As a country, I think we need to rely on the government to help us organize and provide policies and programs. Without the government’s involvement, I believe that we would have a much harder time economically and socially. With that being said, Although we do need the involvement of the government to help keep Americans stable I think that it is also important to have boundaries. I believe that the government should allow Americans to make autonomous decisions regarding their personal situations for example healthcare decisions. At the end of the day, the government should be there to help guide us in the right direction but we all still make our own choices regarding our health and wellbeing.
In regards to the stalemate in Washington and my state capitol, I think that the only suggestion I had was that we needed to reopen the government before holding any negotiations regarding the immigration policy because with the government being held hostage there would be no true progress.
In my opinion, I believe that with massive changes in our countries priorities and policies we could end poverty. With this being said I believe that everyone has to be willing to make a change in order for us to start making progress. Changes would involve the wealthier being taxed fairly to help support the lower income, the government helping to create more jobs for the unemployed and much, much more. Although I do believe that ending poverty is possible, I don’t believe that as a country everyone is willing to help make that change. I believe some people have different priorities and viewpoints in how they see lower-income Americans. Therefore, I do not believe that ending poverty will happen in my lifetime.
